Building rapport during calls

I’ve been working on my call techniques lately, and I realized that making personal connections can really turn the tide in a conversation. I often ask about customers’ experiences or relate to their challenges, and it seems to both ease the call and increase satisfaction. Anyone else have tips or stories about using personal touches during calls?

I totally agree about building rapport! I find that sharing a quick personal story relevant to what a customer is experiencing can really create that connection. For instance, when they mention a tough situation, I sometimes share how I faced something similar.

Absolutely, sharing a bit about yourself can make those calls feel more like coffee chats than sales pitches. Just remember, not everyone wants to share their life story — sometimes a bit of humor, like a quick joke about the weather, can break the ice instead. What’s your go-to line for easing into a conversation?

It’s like the difference between being at a dinner party and a stockholder meeting — nobody wants the latter! I’ve found that if you can relate to a customer’s issue with a simple question, like ‘How’s that going for you?’, it opens up the conversation more. Have you ever tried mixing in a little humor to lighten the mood?
